Today Dean's Scholars held their first professional development with Professor Ehrlich where we discussed Laws in Education. The Dean Scholars, along with Kappa Delta Pi offer a variety of professional develops that prepare future teachers outside of the classroom.

Are you planning on attending any professional developments this semester? How do you think they can benefit you as a future educator? What do you think you can learn from these experiences?

  2. The Professional Development was put on by the Dean Scholars. While we do not know if there will be another PD specifically on Laws in Education there will be a large variety of PD events coming up over the school year.

  3. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'Laws in Education' Workshop on Monday! Professor Ehrlich discussed very pertinent topics as to how the law affects how we act as teachers - for example, how to deal with fist fights that break out under our supervision, what to do when suspecting child abuse, and the NCLB Law passed and what that means for us as teachers. I particularly liked this professional development event because it deals with a lot of questions I have about the NY State law and how it affects me as a teacher, but I also look forward to other professional development events coming up. I believe they are the academic side to getting involved with the SOE and can provide a vast amount of advice and tips that we will desperately need once we do become teachers!

I always value these workshops and professional development opportunities. I believe that they are a great way to supplement what we learn in our classes as well as cover important education topics that we possibly have not covered in detail before. I thought that Professor Ehrlich's workshop was very informative and highlighted topics that are essential for educators to throughly understand in order to ensure the safety of their students and themselves.
