Topic of the Week: Goals for Spring 2012

With the semester in full swing, it's time to start planning for success. Goal setting is critical for being as academically productive as possible and helps us to better prioritize our tasks. What do you hope to accomplish this semester and how will you do it? Do you wish to improve your writing? Stop procrastinating once and for all? Get more organized? Or do you want to improve your overall GPA?

What are your academic goals this semester? What will you do to achieve them?

  1. My main goal this semester is to successfully maintain a good composure through all of the clubs, orgs, and jobs i'm currently in! It's tough balancing things out but I can manage with a couple of post its and an iphone.

    1. Jess, thank you for sharing with us! We agree: it can be tough to find a balance in college when a student is expected to maintain good grades, work, and be an active member in extracurricular activities all at the same time! And you're completely right, it's definitely manageable as long as you stay organized and on top of everything.
Also, what is your last name so we can make note of your blog posts?

  2. My goal this semester is to avoid overwhelming myself with work at any given time and to prioritize better. I often find myself with a to-do list larger than I could possibly handle, which is stressful and frustrating when I cannot complete everything I hoped. That in mind, this semester I hope to set some of my priorities straight and plan ahead of time. Instead of choosing to bombard myself with work one day, I will spread out tasks that must be done over the course of a week. The most urgent and important tasks will be done at the beginning of the week and the least important at the end. I plan on using both my planner and Gmail Calendar to write down and keep track of everything!

  3. My major goal for this semester is to get through student teaching successfully! I am going to do my best to plan little by little so when the day before comes I am not overwhelmed. At times I know I may get frustrated by I am confident that these past four years have given me the tools I need to succeed. Student teaching is going to be one huge learning process.

  4. I agree with Tara! Being a good student teacher is my goal for the semester as well. I'm working hard to collaborate with both my cooperating teacher and our special education co-teacher to plan lessons which are differentiated for the students in our senior class. There's going to be lots to learn about how to plan for students with various IEPs!

  5. My main goal this semester is to stay organized! I always start out really organized and as the semester progresses I become too busy. I also would like to try and get assignments done as soon as I am assigned them. I find that it is very hard to do something while rushing to meet the due date. I am really looking forward to what the spring semester brings.

    1. Christine, you're not alone. So many students struggle to stay organized and find themselves scrambling to meet deadlines as work accumulates. As long as you figure out what works for you, it's a solvable problem. Sometimes all it takes is a planner or weekly to-do list :)

  6. My hope for this semester is to complete my work as efficiently as possible. I often find myself setting out to complete a task, and it ends up taking me much longer than it should because I get sidetracked with something else. To complete this goal, I plan on going to places such as the library and the D'Angelo center without a computer when I do homework that doesn't require typing or research to ensure that I don't get off track. I'm excited for a new semester and the challenges that come with it!

    1. I really like the idea of not bringing your computer with you. It really helps to cut down on distractions like Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter. I know Starbucks is closed on Sundays and its really quiet over there. That is where I am able to get a lot of homework and reading done.

  7. For this semester, my major goal is to balance my time between getting the best grades I can, and also staying involved in school and activities like Dean's Scholars, S.T.A.R., KDP, and other activities. I have to prioritize better so I can do this all, because I am also working twice to three times a week, plus I have L.E.A.D. workshops, so it is a lot of work for me, but I can do it.

  8. For this semester, I want to hopefully achieve all A's in all subjects. But, I would have to really put effort into my works and study a lot! I am going to study hard for my finals and not wait until the last minute to cram and study. I am also in P.A.R.E. and S.T.A.R. and KDP so I also have to go to all the meetings and activities. So, time management and organization is another factor which I have to consider a lot this semester.
